Jan 25 Spotlight on Joy Kreves

Artist Member SpotlightJoy Kreves is a mixed media sculptor inspired by ecology and nature. Her art explores the human-earth connection, created with all sorts of manmade and natural materials.  Her recent work of geodes are often mistaken for real rock.  Joy will be talking about her process of achieving these rock-like shapes and surfaces and the various invisible and glow paints she works with and will be including a demo.  The presentation will be from her studio and can be watched online or from the arts center.

Joy’s works explore the connections between language, psychology and landscape.  A member of the Radical Joy for Hard Times community group founded by Trebbe Johnson, she has participated in yearly Global Earth Exchanges, in which people make beauty for wounded places.  Kreves has exhibited extensively at area galleries and museums including the Animal Architects artist group started and curated by Donna Payton, in their exhibition at the Monmouth Museum, NJ and other locations.  Her “Craving Nature: The Feast Project” installation was shown at the West Windsor Art Center in the spring of 2017.  Her sculpture, “Mourning Rock With Kickstand” won Best of Show in the 2021 Mercer County Senior Exhibition and went on to win 2nd place in the 2021 New Jersey State Senior Exhibition.  Her art studio is in Ewing, NJ near the Delaware River.

Mar 22 Spotlight Jayme Fahrer

Artist Member Spotlight

Jayme Fahrer creates heartfelt works with acrylic pours.  Her mantra “Jayme pours out” is a reference to both the physical act of pouring paint, and the emotional connection she has to her work.  Jayme states, “Have you ever felt so excited that screaming with joy did not express your excitement enough? Have you ever felt so angry that going to the gym and punching a punching bag for an hour did not exhaust all your anger? If not joy or anger, maybe fear, sadness, envy or doubt. Those over-the-top, beyond bodily capability, mind numbingly overpowering feelings are what ignite my artwork.”

Join us for what promises to be an enlightening look at the career of an artist and her work: ‘It is OK not to be OK and you are not alone.”
