In this walking museum tour, we will explore the history of Southern New Jersey Glass through the Heritage Glass Museum’s historical bottles, artifacts, and tools. You will learn about early glassmaking and see various hand blown, pressed, and scientific glass artifacts. You will also learn about the museum’s history and mission and how they help preserve and share Southern New Jersey’s glassmaking tradition.

Presenter Mike Benson: Mike Benson is the president of the Heritage Glass Museum, where he works with several other volunteers to preserve Southern New Jersey’s glassmaking history. Mike is also the coordinator of Rowan University’s Digital Scholarship Center, where he collaborates with library staff, faculty, and students in developing digital collections and projects such as the Rowan University Arboretum, the Rowan University Public Art Project, the Red Bank Battlefield Collection, the Miss America Collection, and the Glassboro Memory Mapping Project, which led to his interest in helping to preserve Southern New Jersey’s historic glass. Mike’s education has focused on philosophy, history, fine art, and media studies. His professional experience includes fine art and creativity studies, design, teaching, technology management, and digital collections. He has exhibited his creative work and has taught college courses and workshops on design, computer art, photography, and digital scholarship.

This exciting series brings you new topics on the arts from local and regional organizations, museums and galleries. Each session features presentations from various experts, online with Zoom.

Our art talks Lunchtime Gallery Series is free to WWA Members (any level) and $10 to all others.

What to expect:  Our art talks with the Lunchtime Gallery Series hope to inform and engage audiences with a range of topics in the arts.  We bring in local organizations, providing a platform for them to reach new people with shared interests in learning and becoming informed in cultural topics, all presented near me in central New Jersey with Zoom.
