WWAC Member Show – Fiction: The Art Show

Opening Reception: Sunday March 31, 4 – 6 pm

This year’s member show pulls its theme from our resident theater company, Pegasus, and its spring performance of
Fiction by Steven Dietz, a play that blurs the boundaries between fact and fiction, life and the written word. The West Windsor Arts Center invites all members to submit artwork based on the concept of real vs imaginary and the merging of visual arts and literary arts, the image with the written word. This could include work using a quote, book or favorite literature as an inspiration or as part of your creation, personal views of fact vs fiction, and book art. We encourage the exploration of the topic through philosophical theory to material concept. All materials and methods of expression that can be hung on the wall are welcome for jury review. Movement, gesture, literature, and a sense of exploration should be considered.
Michael Joseph, Rare Books Librarian at Rutgers University and the Founding Director of the New Jersey Book Arts Symposium (1995-Present), an annual conference on all things pertaining to book arts with a heavy emphasis on artists’ books, and the editor of Gravesiana: The Journal of the Robert Graves Society. Michael has published in the fields of children’s literature, book arts, and poetry, in particular the poetry of the Anglo-Irish poet, novelist, translator, critic and mythographer, Robert Graves. In collaboration with various artists, he has written fourteen artists books, text for a series of lyrical compositions by the late Herber Rothgarber, and exhibited original artwork in group show.
In order to celebrate and encourage our member artists, WWAC awards cash prizes to 3 works of art selected by the juror that exemplify standards of excellence including:
  • Competent use of media and artistic technical skill
  • Artistic sensitivity and emotional impact
  • Creative and innovative work to educate the public
  • Wall appeal to attract the public
  • Relevance to show theme
