The Artist in Residence program at West Windsor Arts offers artists the unique opportunity to become immersed in a nonprofit arts organization through presentation, teaching, curating and a gallery exhibition.
Every year, a new artist is selected to be an extension of our team, sharing their ideas, knowledge and work with our passionate community of artists, students and visitors. We provide the Artist in Residence with a variety of opportunities to engage with our passionate audience in meaningful ways, during open studio times, workshops and lectures.
“The Artist in Residence program is designed for reflection and growth through interaction with an engaged membership.” — Aylin Green, Executive Director, West Windsor Arts
In addition, the Artist in Residence program at West Windsor Arts provides our artist community with access to an artist who can expand their perspective and provide learning opportunities by sharing their unique experience and the many aspects of being an artist, such as using imagery to express concepts, choice of medium, and defining a purpose.
West Windsor Arts launched its Artist in Residence program in 2024 to create an inspiring space where artists can work, teach and engage with the community. Through this interactive program, the arts center can offer the community more enriching experiences.
West Windsor Arts’ 2025 Artist in Residence, Dr. Maria Lupo, is a nationally recognized artist and board-certified art therapist whose work is deeply influenced by myth and fairy tales. As both an artist and therapist, Maria uses creative expression to tell stories and help others unlock the healing benefits of art. She also served as the curator for the 2025 Member Show at West Windsor Arts.
Maria invites community members to stop by the art center during her studio hours to chat about art and learn more about her career as an art therapist. “From the first time I walked into this space, I felt really comfortable,” says Maria. “The vibe of this place is beautiful—so artsy and soothing—and the roster of classes is amazing.”
West Windsor Arts’ 2024 Artist in Residence, Fiona Clark, is a visual artist best known for her use of bright, bold and colorful abstracts. Our first-ever Artist in Residence, Fiona enjoyed spending time in the studio, working on projects and sharing her knowledge and expertise with student artists.
As part of her residency, Fiona recalled her journey becoming a full-time artist during a special artist meetup, providing tips and encouragement to others thinking of following their dreams professionally. She also led a workshop called “Public Art 101,” offering attendees the opportunity to be part of an art installation at West Windsor Arts.
