Rx: Laughter

In times like these, we all need the medicinal qualities of a good laugh! On Saturday, March 13, 2021 we will host “Rx: Laughter,” a virtual gala and auction benefiting the arts and education programs of the West Windsor Arts Council. WWAC board member Andrew Morris will keep the event lively and engaging as our dynamic MC!

Features of the Event

Comedy
Our feature entertainment will include 4 live performances of comedy by up-and-coming stars! Not recommended for audiences under the age of 17, parental discretion is advised.

Host: Tushar Singh (star of American Hasi)
Tushar Singh is a stand up comedian based out of New York City. Since starting in New York in 2005, he has performed various clubs, colleges, festivals and private shows across the country. With a honest storytelling style, his comedy deals with cultural identity issues as they relate to growing up in the American deep south while being raised by conservative first generation Indian parents. He co-created “Unnecessary Evil”, a show that has been hailed one of LA’s best stand-up comedy shows at the Westside Comedy Theatre in LA. He made his television debut on Fox’s “Laugh” TV show. His feature length documentary film entitled “American Hasi” explores the burgeoning Indian stand up comedy scene. He can also be seen on tour with the ABDCs (American Born Desi Comics), performing at venues across both US and India.

Also featuring:
Gilbert Lawand left the corporate world in 2007 and helped usher in an Atlanta comedy boom by producing and hosting over 300 shows called “Comedy Gold.” In 2015, he was a finalist in the Laughing Skull Festival and also produced the first annual Red Clay Comedy Festival. Gilbert has opened up large theater shows for both Dave Chappelle and Aziz Ansari. His comedy is a mix of social commentary and satire with a unique perspective based on his background: born in Baghdad to Catholic parents before moving to a town of 500 people in Georgia where he grew up on a farm. He recently moved to New York where he resides in Brooklyn.

Amy Shanker Growing up with the looks of a prepubescent Latino boy and a family that her friends dubbed “The Jewish Griswalds,” Amy had no choice but to go into standup comedy. Her dry comedic style and edgier perspective stem from her time as an inner-city high school English teacher. Amy’s a regular at Laugh Factory, Zanies, and The Stand NYC. She performs at clubs, corporates, and colleges across the U.S.

Corey Ryan Forrester has been writing and performing stand up comedy since the age of sixteen …before he could legally work in a comedy club. His North Georgia roots have given him an affinity for Southern wit and storytelling. He may often wear a PBR hat, but don’t assume there is anything blue collar about him. Corey has been featured on ABC, HBO, BBC (British Broadcasting ), CBC (Canadian Broadcasting), Esquire, Forbes Magazine and is a contributor for The Huffington Post and The Bitter Southerner.

A fun and fast paced race to be the winning bidder all in support of the West Windsor Arts Council. Anyone can join in on the fun! Bidding opens on Monday, March 8 and ends Saturday March 13 at 8:45 pm.

Rx: Laughter Bistro Box for two $50
Complement your evening with our “Bistro Box.” In partnership with the West Windsor Farmers Market, it includes delicious, vegetarian-friendly cuisine sourced from local farms and businesses. Specially selected food items, drink recipe, plating challenges, event swag, and more. Each box is designed for two people.

Each Bistro Box contains:

• Forkin’ Good Nuts 2 oz. bag of spiced peanuts.
• LoRe Pasta’s NJ Lasagna for 2 (vegetarian friendly) Semolina pasta sheets, ricotta, marscarpone, parmesan, scamorza, nutmeg, salt, pepper, marinara sauce.
