“What if You Fly?”

based on a poem by Erin Hanson and murals by Kelsey Montague

This fall we invite you to take a risk, try something new, and experience the joy of art by making a feather to become part of a community art project in the art center lobby. Your feather will become part of a strong set of wings created directly on the wall.

When you put yourself out there, as we do all the time in the arts, it can be intimidating at first. You might tell yourself that you are not “good” at art, or that it is not for you. But if you stop yourself before you try, you will miss out on so many rewards that come your way. These include a sense of peacefulness and meditation as you work, making new friends, and a sense of accomplishment as you work to improve your skills. You should never be scared to make a mistake, that is how we grow. Be kind to yourself and trust that you can do this!

We have an art cart ready with materials to make your feather including a blank feather, colored pencils, crayons, paint pens, and more. You can make a design or add a personal message. Drop in any time during open hours to participate. As each person’s feather is added, we make something beautiful together. We will continue to grow the wings as more feathers are added.

Come take your photo with the wings, visualize yourself taking flight, and share #whatifyoufly #wwac #communityarts
