Open Mouth Poetry

November 9 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free
Open Mouth Poetry for Arts & Healing month

Open Mouth Poetry will provide an opportunity for local poets to read their original poetry in front of a supportive audience. Open to all poets aged 15 and older, this event is dedicated to the memory of Liz Madden-Zibman, a beloved community member, wife, and poet.

In support of Arts and Health month, Open Mouth Poetry will be held each November to promote poetry’s role in healing, affirming, and nurturing healthy individuals. Poetry themes may be diverse, but the salve of the art form will carry throughout.

Cost to participate is Free. Readers can sign up upon entry to the event. Each reader gets a limited amount of time to read.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
Registration is requested for planning purposes, but not required.
Walk-ins are welcome too!

Register for Open Mouth Poetry

We are looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming Open Mouth Poetry event. Due to the increased interest in reading a poem, we have set up the following guidelines for signing up to read. By following these rules, we hope to provide an opportunity for as many people as possible to read a poem. You do not have to read a poem to attend.

-Sign up to read begins at 1:30pm on Saturday November 9, 2024.
-You must be in person at the arts center to sign up.
-Sign ups are on a first come, first serve basis. Even those who have registered for the event will need to sign up in person in order to read.
-There are 25 time slots available.
-Each person can read 1 poem within a 3 minute time period. Please choose a poem that fits into the 3 minute time allotment. It is always a good idea to practice reading your poems aloud beforehand.
-Your 3 minutes will be timed. You will receive a 30 second reminder before it is up. If you finish early, your time will be saved for someone else to have the chance to read.

Readings will begin at 2:00pm in the gallery with an introduction and welcome by Elane Gutterman. We thank Dan Zibman for his sponsorship of this event, which is being held in memory of Elizabeth Zibman.

Coffee and refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you!
